While the EC has issued a gag order against the media, it seems oblivious to the rampant buying of votes going on, which even politicians admit.
Says a senior Congress leader in Maharashtra: ‘‘Voters know this is the time to make money, so they are willing to auction their votes. Given the closely-contested and issueless nature of the polls, parties have no choice but to give in.’’
