Manitoba chiefs call for uniform elections at general assembly - Portage Daily Graphic - Manitoba, CA: "The 64 chiefs passed a resolution at the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs’ General Chiefs Assembly, held at the Keeshkeemaquah Conference Centre on the Long Plain First Nation urban reserve, to come up with a governance leadership code, which would change the way First Nations elections are held, Long Plain Chief Dennis Meeches said.
The new code would call for all First Nations’ elections to be held at the same time, similar to municipal elections in the province, Meeches explained, and would also call for terms of three or four years for chief and councils instead of the two years they serve now."
