Sever the link between party and process:
The continued influence of the Progressive Conservative Party in the appointment of returning officers contaminates what should be an independent and non-partisan process. It violates the cherished western ethos of transparent government, one Albertans have long demanded from Ottawa and now expect from the provincial Tories who've ruled this province for nearly four decades.
