Electronic voting a win for disability groups - northumberlandnews.com / indynews.ca

Electronic voting a win for disability groups:

Disability groups are praising the lack of barriers in this year's all-electronic election.

'Committees across the province have been watching this very closely,' said Don Ubell, past chairman of the Cobourg Access Committee, of electronic voting.

'What it means for the handicapped community is that you solved the blind problem, you solved the problem that I couldn't get in to the polling station, you've solved all those barriers.'

Mr. Ubell was addressing Stephen Beamish, vice-president of Intelivote Systems Inc, during a presentation on electronic voting in the Cobourg council chambers on Monday, Aug. 9. Intelivote provided electronic voting capabilities for the town in 2006, which were offered along with a paper ballot option, and will once again be offering their services for the upcoming municipal election, which will offer only electronic voting via internet or telephone. --->>>
