The United Steelworkers union is investigating allegations of election irregularities in the hotly contested race for District 6 director.
The Pittsburgh-based union will send a team of officials to Canada in January to probe complaints filed by both incumbent Wayne Fraser and local challenger Tony De Paulo.
The officials will collect evidence at individual USW locals across Ontario and Atlantic Canada before issuing a recommendation -- which could include a second vote, said John Perquin, assistant to the union's secretary treasurer.
"For them to have to go out and investigate complaints is rare," Perquin said yesterday. "This is a very hotly contested, very hard-fought race." ...
